52 Emails

Written by: Ms. Modern 2 June 2009 993 views 5 Comments

Ok, So I’ve always met my dates online it seems. Mostly on Yahoo through chat rooms, or on AOL back in the day when it was pay by the minute. I’ve become a true woman of the modern age, and I am now a paying member on a popular dating site. Yes, I said it…. paying! I have my profile posted, and I pay a large monthly fee to be able to read my email from other fine members like myself.  I put a lot of effort in this whole online dating thing. I search the profiles daily, sometimes multiple times. I go thru any suggested matches that the dating site recommends for me, and email accordingly. In my first 2 weeks on said paid dating site, I have spent a lot of time looking for matches.
Here’s the kicker…. I have sent out 52 emails, to 52 different guys in 2 weeks time. And how many of those wonderful men have responded to my emails that I pay so dearly for? ONE. One email response out of the 52 I have sent. Most of those emails didn’t even get a “No Thanks” response-which is free to send-by the way! I’m not expecting every man to jump at the opportunity to talk to me, but at least have the common courtesy to say “no thanks”.

I don’t just randomly email men, hoping to find a needle in the haystack either. I am searching through my matches, based on my profile, and emailing only those members that come up in my matches. I’ve even weeded out the men who list “slender and athletic” as preferred body types for their dates to save us all some time! I have struggled with picking a body type on most dating sites. I consider myself a BBW (big beautiful woman), but some people have a negative view of “BBW”. Some sites give you the option of “full figured”, which I have also used. The problem with picking one body type, is that you limit your self in the searches that you will show up in. Men are visual creatures, and most of them, when given the choice will pick “slender, athletic” or even “average” body types when doing searches. I’m all for physical attraction, but I know that physical attraction goes beyond your pant size.

I would like to think that most of those 52 emails have been sent to men who, at least on the surface, fit my basic requirements and vice versa. So I’m wondering what the hell is going on in this single and dating world?! I did have one member contact me first, what a sweetheart! We actually chatted for a while, and did have a date. Didn’t quite hit it off, lack of chemistry I guess, but I did enjoy getting the chance to meet him.

Oh yeah, about the one guy who emailed me back… he’s severely allergic to cats. Bummer.
