Halloween Giveaway 10/2: Roz Petalz Studio – Ring

Roz Petalz Studio is owned by Kathy Swenning. I recently got the chance to interview her a bit!

How did you get started? Beads are an addiction & I have always loved to make jewlery & always ran out of money way too fast! My dad gave me a book about making beads from polymer clay so I could make my own – tada! It is still my Bible today – “The New Clay” by Nan Roche.

Once I was home expecting my second child, Jacob, & not planning to return to teaching anytime soon, I explored selling my craft online. Roz Petalz Studio was born! [It was] named for my daughter, Hannah Rose. I have been selling my beads & jewelry online ever since & discovered Etsy in 2006.

I sell my beads in a local bead shop now and also teach classes there to both kids and adults. I suppose it’s sort of a complete circle, since that’s where I was spending that money in the first place!

What’s your inspiration? My inspiration often surprises me. Sometimes it’s during a walk on the beach. Sometimes it’s watching a T.V. show with my kids. Sometimes it’s seeing an outfit someone is wearing. Sometimes I wake up at night and jot down notes. Once I was tipsy in a swanky bar with my husband & it was the wall made of Himamlayan salt! I suppose, pretty much anything can be an inspiration if it is colorful, unique and catches my attention.

Do you do custom items? YES! I have regular return clients who order my beads for their own creations. I also take custom orders for finished pieces. I am a frequest flyer of Etsy’s Alchemy.

It has been sanded, buffed and sealed for a nice shine. Attached is a sterling silver plated Aanraku bail (medium size).
