Halloween Giveaway 10/9: Morgyn Stranahan – Halloween Shot Glass!

I had the opportunity to ask Morgyn a few questions about her art. Here’s what she had to say:

How did you get started? At the age of 15 I was assigned the task of sorting through some of my mother’s belongings after her murder. It was then that I found a set of her paints. I took them into my room to use and there began to seriously study visual arts. I had known her to cook exquisite meals, sew, quilt, and arrange flowers. The set of paints surprised me and I wondered what she would have created with them. She was loving, imperfect, creative, and an incredibly brave woman. I am proud to call her my mother.

What’s your inspiration? People, animals, stories.

What’s your favorite medium? Drawing (on paper, glass, doesn’t make a difference)

Do you do custom items? With pleasure!

Morgyn’s story touched me very deeply. I felt privileged that she shared it with me and all of you.

Morgyn’s store is full of art. She offers prints, original paintings, greeting cards, collages, stickers, vases and cups/mugs/shot glasses. One of my fave items is this Cherry Blossom Hand-painted Vase! Just look at the attention to detail.

I also admire the different artistic styles she uses when doing one of her drawings. For example, in my opinion, this print, entitled “Soon to Be” has a modern feel to it. I like the simplicity of the colors and would definitely consider buying this for a friend who was expecting. In fact, (can you hear the gears working in my head) I’ll be attending the baby shower for 2 of my friends who are about to be Mommies to their new baby boy. Perhaps I’ll ask Morgyn if she could handpull this print in blue . . . Hmmmm . . .

Thank you! That one, “Barn Swallow”, is a digital print of a monotype I made. I used the image on our wedding invites. Art to me is a visual language that can express so much more than words.

Hell yeah! That is one of my faves too. Thank you so much for the compliment and for taking the time to look. I recently found smaller, more traditional sized chaser glasses so in the next couple weeks there’ll be more Bloody Mary glass sets.

I really like all your paintings but since I have to narrow it down to one, that would be the Monarch Butterfly Mug. I like how the Butterfly evolves from the Caterpillar, to the Chrysalis, & then becomes the Butterfly.

Edelweiss reminds me of the wonderful Swiss exchanged student we hosted
in our home 15 years ago. She made me a lovely table runner with all of the wildflower of the Swiss Alps and this mug reminds me of her. We still keep in touch…..
