Halloween Giveaway 10/10: RosaleenDhu Designs – Black Kitty Scarf!

I had the chance to ask Maire, of RosaleenDhu Designs, some questions about her art. Here’s what she had to say:

How did you get started?

It was kind of by accident. My friends and I had been kicking around the idea of doing an amateur table at an Anime convention for a couple years. Then someone actually got a table, and I had to come up with what I wanted to sell! Up until a few months before the event, I thought I was going to be selling art, but I couldn’t come up with any print ideas. Once I thought of the scarves, my business took on a life of its own. I’m glad it did, since I became unemployed right around the time of the convention.

What’s your inspiration?

A lot of my inspiration comes from Japanese street fashions, especially Lolita. Some of my other ideas come from watching anime. The rest of my ideas come from interacting with my customers. I’m hoping to work a little bit of historical costuming into my line of doll clothes, but I tend to be very fickle until the patterns are actually made.

What’s your favorite medium?

Fabric! I know how to do a wide variety of crafts, but fabric is far and away my favorite. I always end up returning to it.

Do you do custom items?

Sort of. I’ll take color requests for existing items, but I won’t create new patterns on request. It’s a very long process for me, and I’d hate to leave a customer waiting for that long.

Maire’s etsy store is all about her cute scarves! They’re made from polar fleece. They’re approximately 31 inches long before tail, so it fits close around the neck. The tail and legs are meant to be tucked through the tab on the back to keep the scarf snuggly around the neck. The scarf is machine washable, but hand washing is recommended. Please air-dry to keep the material from pilling. Prices range from $20 – $25.
