Halloween Giveaway 10/5: A Mother’s Crochet – Custom Hat

I got the opportunity to ask Jacqueline, the brains behind A Mother’s Crochet, some questions about her art. Here are her answers:

How did you get started?
I actually started crocheting and knitting to donate preemie hats to our local hospitals and churches after the stillbirth of my twin daughters. Someone had donated hats to the hospital they were born in, and they were brought to me wearing them. That touched me when the nurses told me. I decided shortly after that I wanted to focus my grief into something constructive.

I still have those hats, and I am thankful to the thoughtful person who helped me find a way to give to someone else. I have continued to donate items.

What’s your inspiration?
Nature mainly. The beautiful colors that come with each season change excites the child in me. The wonder and expectations that the future holds, reminds me of each little one whose life is a blank book waiting for the chapters of her life to be written.

What is your favorite medium?
All yarns!! I love the texture, the colors, even the smell. I have worked with ribbons and cloth, threads and fabrics, but yarn makes me think of love.

Do you do custom items?
Yes, all the time. I like the challenge of trying something new.
