prizeypickWhen I found Charlene’s store, Kootenay Bath Products, I just KNEW we had to offer our Ms. Modern readers a chance to win some of her fabulous bath & body products! I was able to ask Charlene a few questions to get to know her and her store better. Here’s what she had to say:

How did you get started? My name is Charlene, I live in a small town of Balfour, BC and I’m a wife and a mother of two great children who swim all year and they compete in the summer all over the Kootenays. How Kootenay Bath Products came to be is that I ended up spending too much money on bubble baths and body butters from other store, that in 2007” I started making my own bath products. I decided to sell on line with Ebay and Etsy and that has been doing very well for me, I’ve shipped all over the world and alot of repeat customers. I do sell in some local stores here in Balfour at Gift and Gill as well as Nelson at the Kootenay Co-op and Mermaid Gallery. This summer started selling my products at Figments in Kaslo and at The Lady in the Tub Bed and Bath Boutique in Salmon Arm. Just recently a spa in Iqaluit, Nunavut (Canada) started selling my whipped body butters. My packaging is nothing fancy, it’s all about what is inside. I make it affordable, because once you try them you’ll be back for more.

What’s your inspiration? The love of a good bubble bath with outstanding scents and a good book once the kids are in bed.

What’s your favorite medium? Anything that I can have a good bath with.

Do you do custom items? 95% of my stuff that I sell is you choice of scent. That’s what makes it so personal to your taste and not mine.

I, Ms. Modern, had the chance to review some Kootenay Products: Energy Shower Bar, Lemongrass Whipped Body Butter & Pina Colada Bubble Bath Salt!

Lemongrass Whipped Body Butter – This is the first thing I sampled. The smell is light and gentle and not overpowering, which I love! It’s just enough to make you smell light and summery. Yum. The consistency is creamy but not greasy! I hate feeling greasy after using a body butter, but Charlene’s recipe countered that, giving me a lasting feeling of moiture-rich skin without the grease! It immediately absorbed and didn’t just sit on top of my skin. It contains natural ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil and cocoa butter! I definitely recommend this for body butter lovers like me!

Energy Shower Butter/Bath Melt – Before I even tried this, I was impressed by the writing on the package. Not only can this be used in the shower or bath BUT can be used to rub on dry patches of skin! As I have the dryest spot of skin EVER on my right ankle bone, I decided to give this a try on that. Although it didn’t immediately cure my super dry rough spot, it went on smooth and moisturized it! Made with only cocoa butter, apricot kernal oil and fragrance, this product is not only soothing to the skin BUT can even travel in my purse in case I want to use it during the day at work. The smell, Energy, is a complex blend of citrus including scents such as orange, grapefruit, lemon and lime with hints of pineapple, blackberry and champagne. Yummy.

Bubble Bath Salt – “Do you like pina coladas?” The smell of my pina colada bubble bath got that song stuck in my head before I even sat down in the tub to take my much-needed soothing bath. Charlene – your products smells soooo good that that song is playing like a broken record in my brain! LOL. Anyway – back to my bath. I turned the lights off and lit a candle to set the bath-relaxing mood. Last week was a stressful week & I was looking forward to having a nice hot bath in my bath salt. Charlene’s bath salts did not disappoint! Not only did I smell fabulous afterwards, but my skin was soft and smooth.

My Overall Thoughts on Kootenay Bath Products – Besides being quality a product, Charlene strives to save the consumer money by using cost-affordable packaging and home-printed labels. This saves money, but also looks very nice and professional. She has a scent list with TONS of choices which is another plus. Just about any scent you can image is on there! You should RUN not walk to her store today to buy your own items!
