Ms. KnowItAll and I are pretty much in lust with Chrissy Ann Ceramics (and Chrissy isn’t so bad either – lol)! This fab gal has a degree in Fine Arts with a Ceramics emphasis and it shows! I got the chance to ask her some questions about her artistry. Here’s what Chrissy had to say:

How did you get started? I got started with clay as a child through an elementary school project, and have been in love with it since I first discovered it! Professionally, I finished college in 2002, in fine art, with a concentration in ceramics. Soon after, I moved back to my home town, and began renting my own studio space. Waitressing part time, I began investing in my own equipment and tools, and started my own pottery business, Chrissy Ann Ceramics. I developed several lines of tiles, dishware, and home accents, and then started marketing myself to my local community through summer festivals and holiday sales.

What’s your inspiration? I get inspired really randomly. Mostly, springtime gets me. When the hostas start poking through the earth in their little groupings.. I start sketching away! I love getting lost in gardens to see what I can find. I absolutely love the growing process of plant forms, and cool textures you can find in nature. Its the little quiet moments that inspire me most. When you look at the every day through different eyes, and see it like you haven’t before. I remember taking a shower once and discovering the beauty of my loofah and its form, and then creating a series of sculpture because of it. Often I will dream up some cool ideas & if I’m lucky enough, I sketch them in the morning. Sometimes, inspiration will get you when you least expect it!

What’s your favorite medium? Stoneware clay is by far my favorite medium! I love everything about it.. the look, smell, feel of it. It gets my creative juices flowing & I just can’t wait to start sculpting away! When I get to my studio and open up a fresh new bag of clay, it sends some crazy signal to my creative self, and then I’m in a completely different mind set! Its amazing!

Do you do custom items? Yes, I love doing custom orders! Through emails, I will get all of the specifics down as detailed as possible then I will sketch up a design and email it over to the customer. Once I get the ok, I will go forward & create the ceramic custom design.

If I had to choose a favorite piece, I’d be hard-pressed. Instead, I’m going to show you a few of my personal faves! This Leaf Platter ($40) measures 13″ long by 6″ wide and is in a soft greenish color that makes me feel peaceful. Either use it to serve your friends or hang it on your wall as a decorative piece!

I also love this small tappas dish with ”Sexy B*tch” adorned on it ($20). I tend to use this type of item as jewelry holders or on my stovetop for my tea bags and spoons. Plus, I’m a sexy b*itch!
