On The Bead is the mutual creation of Julie and Chuck, metal artists since the mid-70’s! I had the chance to ask them a bit about their artwork. Here’s what they had to say:

How did you get started?
Chuck: I am basically self-taught – I remember carving Tiki necklaces at about eight years old! I started making and selling jewelry as an apprentice in 1975, and continued to make jewelry for special orders and gifts over the years.

Julie: I started making jewelry with Play-doh, and continued in Girl Scouts (think I was about seven then). I have been making jewelry ever since.

What is your inspiration?
On this our answers are exactly the same: The simple act of creation! It greatly inspires us to make beautiful things that people appreciate.

What is your favorite medium?
Chuck: Anything three dimensional.

Julie: Beautiful things – be it filigrees or gemstones – just about anything beautiful! I am like a bird in that regard – attracted to things that sparkle! As far as gemstones; I am especially fond of Rainbow Moonstone and Labradorite – they’re a more durable alternative to opal, which is also a favorite.

Do you do custom items? Yes, we love custom orders! We will think of several designs for you based on the materials you want and give you a choice, or we will make your ideas come to life! It is a fun and interesting challenge, and always very gratifying when the customer expresses their appreciation for the piece.

As I opened my sparkly silver box, I found this beautifly delicate chain adorned with 2 beautiful birds flying to rendezvous on an antiqued vintage brass branch necklace with a faceted, Labradorite Teardrop.

It looks simply elegant around my neck and I received many compliments when I wore it out to dinner with my family last evening! The branch is also lightly weighted so that it remains in place without my having to move the chain around to keep “the picture” in its place. What I really like, besides the incredible design, is that the chain has soldered links so it can not fall apart during wear – it is constructed so it can be enjoyed for many, many years to come! This gem is only $26.50!

One of their bestsellers is the Black Onyx Inverted Heart Necklace With Antiqued Brass Art Nouveau Floral Flourish! This classy necklace is adjustable up to 20 inches long, and it can be made as short as you would like, thanks to the tiny hook that easily fits through the small, oval linked, Antiqued Brass chain! And, it’s only $19.50!
