I’ve admired Janet’s work for many months after finding Archipelago Arts on etsy! Not only is she a genuinely nice person, but she’s creative as all get out! Here’s what Janet had to say concerning her art:

How did you get started? Five years ago I happened to see some vintage-image picture pendants featured in a magazine. They reminded me of sentimental mementos popular at the turn of the last century. The Internet provided me with a materials list and I embarked on a startup odessey that included a steel-cage death match with solder. We both won, and together we make nice things.

What’s your inspiration? Just about everything. I have always believed if you pay attention to the world around you will be perpetually inspired and never bored. As a devout student of pop culture, I draw from that realm a lot. Sentimentality also intrigues me…saying things to people they deserve to hear.

What’s your favorite medium? This is much like having to choose a favorite child! I’ve dated just about every medium over time, and although I broke up with many of them we all remain good friends. My first love was a black Sharpie and a piece of paper. Explore the deepest place in my heart and soul though and you’ll find yarn.

Do you do custom items? I do. While I love making my “classics” there is nothing like creating something very special and specific. I’m always honored to look at the faces of someone’s children or companion animal while I capture the love for them in glass. Some of the most fun I’ve had in this process is creating inside joke pieces or outrageous statement pieces. Custom work is the spice of art glass pendant life.

She forgot to mention that her pendants are ONLY $10 a pop! Isn’t that amazing?

Now, I would LOVE to get this pendant for Ms. KnowItAll (no particular reason, of course) . . .

I bought this pendant from Janet’s shop in May of 2009 for my Sis-in-Law who loves The Wizard of Oz! She’s played Dorothy several times!
