Janelle, half of Twin J’s, owns  a crafty store where you can buy just about anything! Here’s the story of how she and her twin got started:

How did you get started? I’ve always been a crafty gal whose enthusiasm for the arts crosses over many lines. I’m a singer/songwriter. a repurposer of all things old and in need of love, I am a treasure hunter and the cleanest painter this side of the Mississippi. I moved to Los Angeles several years ago to surround myself with creative thinkers and I’m so glad I did. I have a great group of friends from designers to singers, to writers and model makers, to makeup artists and actors. Everyone I know makes a living from their inspired endeavors. I’m grateful every day that I live in a virtual vortex of creative energy because it helps me constantly have new ideas for exciting products and projects in a wide variety of mediums.

I love making birthday gifts for my friends. Since we’re all a bunch of artists, we make gifts for each other because they’re way better than anything we could buy. Thankfully, every year, my dear friend Lara has a birthday and she really keeps me on my toes. It seems I always challenge myself to come up with something FANTASTIC to make for her, needing to outdo the year prior. The funny thing is, I seem to turn it into a successful business.

I also co-founded a local gathering of a variety of artisans with different skill sets that we lovingly refer to as “BitchCraft“, a weekly sewing circle that is anything but old fashioned.

What’s your inspiration? Life. The thing about inspiration is that you never know where it’s going to come from. I find inspiration in the oddest places… I once wrote a song after spying a license plate while stuck in traffic. Mostly my inspiration comes from my eclectic sensibilities and I feel like my work reflects my quirky take on the world. The pieces I create are pieces I would want to own, wear or display myself. I put a little sass and whimsy into everything in my life, my environment and my art.

What’s your favorite medium? I like to work with ceramic paints and vintage china. I also sew, up-cycle clothing and furniture. I like to take something old and give it a new life. I have a knack for turning one man’s trash into new treasures. I also love odds and ends like acrylics, buttons, remnant ribbon, sharpies and paper. Even my vast collection of cookie cutters have come in handy on a number of inedible projects!

Do you do custom items? Yes. I’m happy to do custom items.

The more and more I learn about Janelle, I can see she is a well-rounded artist in many ways!

I’m loving this Baby Sheep Onesie she has in her shop ($8.50).

Now the coolest thing ever (in my opinion) is the item I got to review: A George Clooney Paper Doll! Yes, ladies! He is ALL mine, but he can be yours too for only $10! He comes inside a popcorn bag & comes with a bouquet of flowers, a cigar, a martini, a screenplay and an Oscar statuette! Hours of fun can and WILL be had, ladies!

Currently, 20% of the proceeds of the sale of George Clooney Paper Dolls will be contributed to George’s “Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief” through hopeforhaitinow.org. It’s good to see George & Janelle pitching in together for the greater good!

Here is the TRUE story of how Raggedy Ann & Andy stayed together forever:

1. Ann is dating Andy, but is swayed by GC’s good looks to go on a movie date with him to see “Up in the Air”.

2. But Andy has stowed away in GC’s large buttered popcorn! Uh Oh!

3. Andy beats GC down & re-wins the hand of Ann!

And . . . End Scene.

Twin J’s most creative item for sale are their Twisted Mantra Plates! Text or graphics have been hand drawn or written with ceramic paint that is then heat infused creating permanency. Here are a few of my faves:

“Nobody Reads Your Stupid Tweets” – I’d like to let a few people know this ($20)

I’d personally need this one to remind me to cool it sometimes: “I Will Not Cut a Bitch.” $10
