30 Days of Giveaways: Day 12 – Candy Girl Book Review and Giveaway!

The same four walls of any cubicle can wear a girl down. I’ve certainly chomped at the bit to do something, anything, more exciting than data entry during my adventures in temping. But I never took it quite as far as Diablo Cody.

candygirl You’ve probably heard of Cody from her hit of 2007, Juno, or her recent (and awesome) Showtime show The United States of Tara, but Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper. One day coming home from her job writing ad copy in Minnesota, Cody saw an ad for “Amateur Night” at a local strip club. Though she didn’t win, she was exhilarated and began working strip and sex shows at nights, eventually quitting her day job – all with the support of her fiance, Johnny.

As its title implies, Candy Girl isn’t exactly intellectually weighty, but it’s a well-written, juicy, and thoroughly enjoyable memoir. Cody has a witty and engaging voice. Her exploits in adapting and finding some success on the strip-club and sex shop circuit are relateable and funny, from her first wig to her eventual expenditures on Lucite heels and fake tans.

I will be giving away one good quality used copy out to one winner who follows the directions below. The contest runs from now until June 22 and is open to entrants in the US only.

Yes, thats how I talk to them. DH talks silly baby talk to them too and I tease him. “Oh my goodness, if the guys down at the trucking company could here you now…”
